Data destruction & crushing

Save yourself from the risk of Data Theft and take advantage of our FREE Secure Data wiping & Crushing service

NOTE: If you require any data from your data baring devices, please ensure you remove this prior to disposal as our thorough data wiping process will deem it unrecoverable.

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 any business processing personal data must comply with the eight enforceable principals of good practice (see for details). When disposing of redundant IT equipment it is important to ensure all personal records will be deleted. In addition there may be other sensitive information stored such as access codes, financial details and photographs.

It is our responsibility to ensure the removal of all Data, Software and configuration info from your system and we guarantee this will be completed in every case.

The first thing we do when hardware is brought back, is remove the hard drives and any other data baring devices such as tape drives etc. They are then processed immediately to ensure your data is destroyed in the smallest time scale possible.

The only way to permanently destroy data, without physically destroying hard disks, is by overwriting the data by generating and recording random characters across the entire surface of the drive, resulting in all data being destroyed and file sizes reset to zero. We use the latest versions of this software on all hard drives initially, which can meet both US Military and UK Government Restricted standards if required. Basically these standards dictate that the drive has to be over written a minimum 3 times. The main benefit of using this method over others to destroy data, is it allows the hard drive to be reused.  This wiping process can be visually verified at our warehouse.

This software can destroy data on all drive types and interfaces including IDE, SATA, SCSI, SAS etc and guarantee all data has been irreversibly removed. This software also produces a log detailing the process from start to finish – this can be produced for yourselves if you specifically request it prior to your collection.

All hard drives smaller than 10GB and any hard drives that are faulty or will not power cannot be erased. In this case they are physically destroyed along with all other data baring devices (CDs, Floppy disks, USB dongles etc.) to ensure recovery is impossible.

Please see Hard Drive & Media Tape Crushing for details on physical destruction.

What data erasing software do we use?

To minimise the timescale involved in processing data, we have over 10 systems set up that are constantly erasing data. To give you an idea of the time scale involved, it takes about 1 minute per gigabyte so please be patient when expecting your data destruction certificate.

All drives that come through us are given a single overwrite, making any data irrecoverable. If required your Hard Disks can be erased to MOD standards – this however, takes four times as long. Please inform the driver on collection if you require this service.

  • It is extremely small and transportable only being 48x34x30.5cm
  • Certified in accordance with EN982:1996, EN-ISO 12100-1:2003, EN-ISO12100-2:2003, EN61000-6-2:2005, EN61000-6-4:2007, ANSI B30.1:2004, CE Mark, 2006/42/EC & 98/37/EC, 97/23/EC, 2004/108/EC

We can crush:

  • Hard Drives
  • Tapes
  • CDs
  • Floppy disks etc

How does it work:

Note – This machine will require a normal 3pin UK Plug socket to operate

It drills through the hard disk’s spindles and physically creates ripples in the platters making it impossible to recover the data.

Our onsite data destruction service is guaranteed. The Home Office and many other organisations has attempted recovering data after the crushing process and everyone has failed.
